Connecting Greens on the North Shore

LV Days - June, 2017

LV Days - June, 2016

Welcome to the site of the North Vancouver Green Party of Canada Electoral District Association! Founded in 2004, the organization has grown from a handful of volunteers to an enthusiastic team of over 225 people today. We have fielded candidates in all five recent federal elections. Our last campaign, with Claire Martin as the candidate, was our largest. We received more donations, attracted the most volunteers, and for the first time, rented an office. We all learned a great deal.

The riding of North Vancouver stretches from the Capilano River on the west to the Seymour River on the east. We encompass the City of North Vancouver, a portion of the District of North Vancouver and two Squamish communities, one at the north end of the Lions Gate Bridge and the other on Bragg and Mosquito Creeks. For our boundary details, see this map.

If you would like to attend one of our regular meetings or find out about an upcoming event, please contact us. We are always keen on  new volunteers! If you live in our riding, you can become an official member of our group by joining the Green Party of Canada. As a member of our association, you would have the opportunity to select the organization’s executive and pick a candidate for the next election.

Shout out to the RCMP. I wanted to commend the RCMP on the restraint and reasonableness they have been demonstrating during the protests against Kinder Morgan. This has been evident not only in the way they have been treating activists but also in the recent court proceedings during which Kinder Morgan applied for an injunction (which among other people, named my husband, Gordon). Kinder Morgan asked for an injunction which would include a 50 meter "buffer" zone around the Kinder Morgan work sites. The defendants pointed out that a zone this large would include public roads, parks, the Burnaby reservoir, part of a school ground and some private properties! They collected signatures from citizens in the neighbourhood who stated they did not want to be forced to breach the injunction if they simply wanted to barbeque in their backyards or walk their dog. I could see that the judge thought this was an unreasonable restriction on their liberty. He asked Kinder Morgan to negotiate with the defendants and the lawyer for the RCMP to come up with a more reasonable application. When the RCMP lawyer said he only needed a 5 meter buffer zone, Kinder Morgan had to agree. A small but telling victory
