Welcome to the site of the North Vancouver Green Party of Canada Electoral District Association! Founded in 2004, the organization has grown from a handful of volunteers to an enthusiastic team of over 225 people today. We have fielded candidates in all five recent federal elections. Our last campaign, with Claire Martin as the candidate, was our largest. We received more donations, attracted the most volunteers, and for the first time, rented an office. We all learned a great deal. 

The riding of North Vancouver stretches from the Capilano River on the west to the Seymour River on the east. We encompass the City of North Vancouver, a portion of the District of North Vancouver and two Squamish communities, one at the north end of the Lions Gate Bridge and the other on Bragg and Mosquito Creeks. If you would like to attend one of our regular meetings or find out about an upcoming event, please contact us. We are always keen on  new volunteers! If you live in our riding, you can become an official member of our group by joining the Green Party of Canada. As a member of our association, you would have the opportunity to select the organization’s executive and pick a candidate for the next election.

I encourage you all to write to John Horgan and George Heyman to protest their support of the new LNG plant and pipeline project. Here is a copy of my letter to the premier:

Dear John Horgan,

I am utterly dismayed by your support for a new LNG plant and pipeline project. Yes, it will create jobs. But you have to look at the other side of the ledger—the costs of climate change. BC has already spent a billion dollars on fire fighting in the last two years. A reckless support of the fossil fuel industry ensures that we will continue to pay for damages caused by climate change, due to fires, floods, and storms.

The fossil fuel companies, their shareholders and employees, reap the benefits of the industry. But all of us pay for its costs. You think you can still hit our 2030 targets if other industries manage to cut their emissions. I don’t believe you can square the circle this way, any more than Trudeau can square the circle by increasing oil sands productions and hoping to meet our Paris commitments.

Giving the fossil fuel companies a free ride for their emissions is not sustainable. We need to leave the fossil fuels in the ground and move to renewable energy.
